CICCIO goes to CHINA

An interactive, inflatable environment into which to enter, look, touch and try out. After Milan and Florence, the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea departs for China, to the first Architecture Biennale in Beijing. New media projects will be presented in the heart of Tien An Men.

The Beijing Architecture Biennale-the first of its kind in China- will be the most comprehensive and diverse presentation of architecture and design culture ever to be shown in Chinese history. Within several sections and pavilions, new concepts, technologies and recent international architecture developments will be shown. One of the organisers’ main goal is to create opportunities for Chinese architects to meet and interact with their international collegues.

The portable interactive museum located inside the CICCIO stucture (Curiously Inflated Computer Controlled Interactive Object) is a visual metaphor for a future which is gradually weaving itself in the day to day present. Projects, products and services that are physical representations of possible behavioral patterns, new ways of living and understanding the world around us.

Ivrea’s interaction designers exploit the most advanced technologies (as well as the traditional ones, sometimes even flirting with out-of-date ones) to create objects and services that can offer us innovative products as well as moments of playful entertainment and of pure aesthetic pleasure.

The interaction designer is thus like an alchemist-someone who can revalue the past -both in an ironic and disenchanted way- and look towards the future through a human lens. A humanist project that takes advantage of technologies to create objects and services which can provide moments of reflection as well as fun.
