The book selects the best final projects from the Design Studio at the IV year of the School of Architecture in Roma La Sapienza I held in 2010/11 called “I ♥ PdZ // I Love Piani di Zona”. The theme of the year was about strategies of urban and social renovation of the “law 167 neighborhoods”, the social and economic development of residential area according to the law n.167/1962 in the outskirts of Rome focusing on unexpressed requests of space and services from communities involved in microeconomic processes of self-sustainability by the local Authorities. The subtitle we gave to this research project was “microeconomies looking for their own cities”, meaning the challenge of architects to shape not just architecture but also interpreting the ever changing social and economic trends heavily affecting the contemporary urban condition.

Questa pubblicazione contiene i progetti elaborati con gli studenti del Laboratorio di Progettazione Architettonica ed urbana IV che ho tenuto presso la Facoltà di Architettura di Roma La Sapienza durante il semestre invernale 2010/11. Il laboratorio è stato intitolato “”I ♥ PdZ // I Love Piani di Zona”. Il tema d’anno ha riguardato progetti e strategie di riqualificazione urbana nei quartieri 167 della periferia romana che hanno cercato di “dare spazi e architetture” alle (in)espresse potenzialità delle comunità locali attivate dalle amministrazioni comunali tramite processi microeconomici ed auto organizzativi. Il sottotitolo che abbiamo scelto è stato “Microeconomie in cerca di Città ” sottintendendo appunto la sfida che l’architettura si deve porre nell’interpretare le richieste di nuove e vecchie comunità in trasformazioni alla ricerca di più efficienti ed equi modelli di sostenibilità nel mondo in crisi di oggi.
