Sensitive Landscapes: Responsive Environments and Interactive Exhibition Design course
by Daniele Mancini
IED Design Roma 2022/2023
The aim of the course is to introduce students to methods of conceiving, designing and prototyping interactive installations and sensitive environments in which the visitor is involved in an immersive evocative experience mediated by scenic and spatial devices, multimedia content and invisible technologies.
The main disciplinary themes (space of relationships, real time, invisibility, indeterminacy, narratives, virtual and real, natural and artificial, peripheral awarness, creative coding, physical computing) are presented through the illustration of numerous examples from the world of art, communication, museum displays, entertainment and shopping installations.
The course will focus in particular on analytical and design tools for prototyping experiences with a strong evocative and narrative character. Theoretical and analytical lectures are offered, but also useful laboratory moments to deepen the design methodology and the methods for communicating and prototyping an immersive sensitive environment. The final part of the course is devoted to an experimental workshop to practice the techniques of designing and communicating an interactive exhibit.
